Technical Accountant - Financial Services

Michael Page are working with a global business based in the heart of London who are looking for a strong technical accountant to join their growing team.

Client Details

My client works closely with over 300 Hedge Funds, Asset Management Houses and Investment Firms to provide vital services to the management of their assets, within this function they have an established team providing insight and advice to junior staff to ensure the quality of work being produced is of the highest standard.

Description

The role is varied and includes client facing elements alongside training and development of staff, key elements of the role include;

* Resolve technical accounting queries raised by the processing teams and clients in a timely manner
* Provide technical support to sales and implementation team for prospective and new clients
* Attend and participate in new business and existing client meetings as requested by sales and processing teams
* Perform reviews on the working papers, financial statements and other complex client deliverables (including quality reviews). To help shape and ensure product quality control of the processing output
* Whilst main focus is on IFRS, there are opportunities to develop experience in other GAAPs e.g. UK GAAP, US GAAP and Lux GAAP
* Monitor latest accounting/ legislative changes impacting our clients and draft technical updates for accounting / legislative changes accordingly for release internally to client services teams as well as externally to global clients.
* Deliver (quarterly) Technical presentations to update processing teams on accounting and PE industry developments
* Maintain in-house library of technical journals, articles and documentation relating to accounting issues for processing team members to access
* Identify control weaknesses from reviews, discussions with internal audit, and recommend control procedures to reduce risk
* Identify ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the group's system and processes
* Supporting the business by challenging and suggesting ways that the Company can improve and develop profitability
* Support development of new services and new business proposals through expert knowledge of internal procedures and industry practice
* Opportunities to work with senior management on operational and strategic projects
* Review the internal skill matrix database for all staff globally

This role does not include any monthly production work and is exclusively focused on maintaining up to date knowledge on technical changes. Historically people within this team have gone on to hold director level positions within ratings agencies and banking and others have transitioned to work with clients within the buy side arena.

Profile

We are seeking candidates who have up to date and sound knowledge of financial instruments and can demonstrate exposure to IFRS 9 and IAS 39 etc alongside good interpersonal skills to deal directly with asset managers, hedge fund manager etc.

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA/ICAEW/CA etc) who ideally has Financial services client exposure however candidates with strong financial instrument knowledge gained across other client rotations will be considered.
