An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Finance Manager to join a leading financial services business in Edinburgh on a FTC.
Purpose:
The successful candidate will join an established team and hold responsibility for a full range of month end financial control activities for specific areas of the business - running accounting models, raising accruals, reviewing actuals against forecasts, preparing reporting information with full reconciliation and substantiation of related balance sheet positions.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Overall responsibility for financial control activities for several products or services - ensuring stakeholders fully engaged and that services meet their requirements efficiently and timeously.
  • Month end review of journals and underlying workings prepared by Accounting Technicians
  • Regular review and challenge of underlying models used to calculate postings to ledger
  • Liaising with external audit and supporting end customers within the Bank including Decision Support, Reporting and business areas.
  • Ensuring full compliance with appropriate Banking / business policies
  • Balance sheet review and substantiation
  • Review and challenge of process documentation
  • Project support
  • Develop, review & implement any process improvements.
  • Substantiating balance sheet for any assigned account lines - reviewing related reconciliations.
  • Line management - workload planning, providing direction, issuing resolution, personal development and performance management.
Desired Experience:
The successful candidate will ideally possess or be working towards a professional accounting qualification along with experience of month end accounting within a Finance Operations, Financial Control or similar environment.
Desirable experience includes;
  • Preparation and review of monthly accounting journals
  • Advanced Excel skills essential
  • Knowledge of purpose and appropriateness of controls
  • Preparation/Review of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Good communication skills both verbal & presentation to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop finance staff
