Audit Manager

Your roles as Audit Manager will be to work within a leading independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisers, leading a team and developing your own portfolio of clients. This leading firm work with owner managed businesses, private individuals or listed companies and their goal is to help their clients achieve their ambitions.


Your role
In this Audit Manager role, you will be based in their office in North Surrey and you will profitably manage a portfolio of clients ensuring that clients receive a quality service in all respects.

Having high exposure to Partners and owner managers, you will be able to research and prepare proposals for new work and to take part in formal presentations to prospective clients. You will manage the audit team on assignments and get involved in aspects of people development.

Your core responsibilities

As in all aspects of audit, complying with the firm’s procedures and relevant statutory obligations is essential. You will also be responsible for taking on some administrative duties in the department.

Your duties will include:

  • Planning the assignment in accordance with the firm’s standard procedures and confirm arrangements with the client, including likely costs and billing arrangements.
  • Briefing staff on the client’s business and the pre-assignment instructions, supervising and controlling the completion of work, and to undertake 'on the job’ training and appraisals where necessary.
  • Ensure that jobs are completed within budget, and to discuss all materials points arising with the assignment partner and client immediately, particularly in relation to any anticipated overruns.
  • Liaise with the client throughout the year and to practice the principles of excellent client service at all times.
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of the firm’s specialist services, and to undertake special work in response to client needs where appropriate.
  • Perform the firm’s review and completion procedures, to attend the final meeting with the clients and to ensure that the client subsequently receives the final accounts and commercial management letter on a timely basis.
  • To closely monitor financial reports, to ensure the profitable recoverability of work in progress, and to bill clients on a timely basis.
  • Maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses, and to fulfill the firm’s CPD requirements.
  • Research and prepare proposals for new work, and to take part in formal presentations to prospective clients.
  • Take an active involvement in prospective client seminars, and to effectively follow up contact made.

Your key skills
You will be a Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with extensive audit experience and ideally with previous experience at managerial level

Key candidate skills
  • ACA/ ACCA qualified with extensive audit experience
  • Proven experience of leading teams and developing portfolios'
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Professional communicator at all levels
  • Knowledge of Paperless Audit Software would be advantageous
  • Proven technical accounting knowledge of UK GAAP and consolidated reporting would be beneficial
